Rainy Monday

Rain, thundering hooves, pounding the roof, Rushing out of the gutter, so much rain; then that scent, we will survive, then the chill in the air, the desire to snuggle against her warm flesh. Instead, we make grilled cheese sandwiches and stir warm milk into the tomato soup.

  1. Hello Jim: Wow yes, so much rain! I have a question. In reading this, I was reminded of someone who told me not to use dashes in a poem. I "feel" dashes here in places that you have commas. What is your take on dashes within poetry, in general -- also semi-colons and exclamation marks...? On the last, the person said that if the words themselves, didn't do the job, reliance on an exclamation point was -- well, reliance! - a crutch. I have a poem now, Child of Suicide, in which I use an exclamation mark after And oh! - and I really like it that way. Just wondering your opinion.
